East Enjoy Their Day

East comprehensively beat a strong Salisbury side, avenging the 55-5 drumming at the start of the season.

With a run of recent defeats keeping East in the bottom 2 a confidence boosting win was a sought after tonic. Training numbers have been good though, and a spirited performance at Frome showed signs of a team galvanised by off field talk. The coaches directed the build up for this game as one of enjoyment. No panic, no pressure, no payment! Just fun enjoyable rugby, as a group of mates.

East started into the wind and up front drove Salisbury around the park. Good tactical use of the boot gave the hosts good territory. A couple of push over scrums failed to secure points. Moose mentioned it to Sean a couple of times. The big kiwi did go over eventually and Spanky kicked. This rather spurred Salisbury into action and their open running play soon started to cause East problems. An interception (Jordan!!) finally put them on the score board. This was followed by two more excellent tries as East missed first up tackles. The visitors punishing the home defence with pace and overlaps.

"Stop the first runner and keep enjoying it." That was the half time chat.
With the wind East were hopeful. Salisbury scored again. A sucker blow, a well worked try with hands going left to right and then left again. East defended for all their worth but couldn't stop the waves of attack. 7-26.
"Don't deserve this" "No way back" were touchline comments.

East rallied; really well. Less than 30 mins left and Jordan Cutler went over in the corner. Great kick by Spanky. Great stalwart Leigh Horrible forced his way over as did young Sean Sims. East had turned the game on its head. They were all over the visitors. Spanky kicked both. East were 28-26 up! Quite breathtaking stuff. Stand in skip Nick Darvill then went over by the far touchline. Spanky with another superb kick to punish Salisbury. He then added a pen for 13pts. Great display.

The clock ran down, the whistle went. It was like winning a cup! Not just a victory but a turning point for players, coaches and the club!

Outstanding performances all over the park. To mention individuals would take too long. A brilliant fightback, one of the best displays of spirit I've seen as a coach. Thankyou all very much from me and Moose. See you all at training!!
